Life Skills Coaching
“A
new profession and service arising”
The birth of a new relevant profession and
service – a form of help
I firmly believe that the time has come for a new profession
and service called, ‘Life Skills Coaching’ to emerge stronger than ever in
this world. In other words, the time has come for Life Skills Coaches and
Life Skills Coaching Companies to arise, be recognized and accepted in the
market place and become part of the mainstream services as never before.
More than ever individuals, married couples, families,
businesses, sports teams and other kinds of organizations need the ongoing
services of a professional Life Skills Coach, in order to overcome their
personal and professional challenges and achieve their full potential,
desired dreams and objectives.
I am convinced based on my personal life experience of 45
years, and Life Skills Coaching experience of more than 20 years, that many
or most people, (from your top executives to your domestic workers) are
struggling to cope and manage all the major aspects of their lives properly.
They struggle in various areas of their lives not because
they are bad people, but because they simply don’t know how – they don’t
have the necessary Life Management Skills knowledge or they lack the
necessary motivation and the ability to focus on the implementation thereof.
I am convinced that now and more than ever, people of all
walks of life need experts in Life Management Skills to help them to master
life skills such as: Time Management, Motivational Management, Financial
Management, Project Planning, Interpersonal Relational Skills, Ethical
Management, Team and Organizational Management, Hard Work / Productivity,
Pro-activeness, Spirituality, Self-discipline, Courageousness, Conflict
Management and Stress Management.
The task of a Life Skills Coach
What then is the major task (function or service) of a Life
Skills Coach?
-
The major task of a Life Skills Coach is to motivate,
teach and advise people – individuals and teams, to master the practice
of general success and happiness enhancing skills and principles, called
‘Life Skills’.
Therefore another description for a Life Skills Coach is
also, ‘A Life Skills Development Motivator, Trainer and Consultant’.
Life Skills Coaches are committed to fulfil this task by
providing the following professional Life Skills Coaching services namely:
-
Life Skills development motivational talks
-
Life Skills development seminars or short courses
-
Career guidance consulting
-
Marriage / Relationship consulting
-
Parenting consulting
-
Management consulting
Every Life Skills Coach does not necessary need to fulfil all
of these roles mentioned above. Some will prefer, due to their individual
gifts and personalities, to specialise in one-to-one coaching and others in
motivational talks or training and facilitating seminars and group
consulting.
The major purpose and objectives of a Life
Skills Coach
The major purpose and objective of a Life Skills Coach is to
HELP PEOPLE – individuals and teams:
-
To achieve maximum (full potential) success and happiness
in every aspect of their lives – personal and professional.
-
To discover and fulfil their divine purposes (divine
assignments) with maximum success.
-
To overcome and resolve personal and professional
problems.
-
To improve and uphold the highest possible standards of
ethics (morals), customer service, morale, motivation, productivity and
achievements.
-
To honour God and extend His reign in the hearts of
people.
The way to become a Life Skills Coach
In my opinion and based on my own experience of Life Skills
Coaching, you need to practically have the following in place in order to
become a competent Life Skills Coach:
-
You need to have a genuine passion to help people to
overcome their problems and achieve their full potential.
-
You need to have a genuine passion and talent to
motivate, teach and advise people – individuals and or teams.
-
You need to have an internal intuitive knowing that you
have been created for this specific purpose on earth.
-
You need to have obtained the knowledge (know-how) of all
the major life management skills. (We have up to now identified 40
different life skills areas)
-
You need to have given sufficient evidence that you have
mastered the practice of these Life Skills in a satisfactory manner.
-
You need to have served faithfully and have been
monitored and mentored for a reasonable amount of time in a Life Skills
Coaching team.
-
You need to be systematically released in the life
coaching service – you cannot for example start your coaching career by
coaching executives.
At Maxima all of our aspirant Life skills coaches have to
undergo 3 Year in-service training before they would be considered by senior
management to be released to operate as a fully fledged Life Skills Coach.
During this 3 year in-service training period they will be
studying the 40 major Life Skills Courses, will be involved in practical
supportive services, be mentored by Senior Life Skills Coaches and Managers
and will be systematically exposed and released to do the work of a Life
Skills Coach.
In their 1st year they will operate as a Life
Skills Coach Trainee, in their 2nd year they will operate as an Assistant
Life Skills Coach and in their 3rd year they will operate as a Junior Life
Skills Coach.
In order to be considered by senior management to become a
Senior Life Skills Coach they will have to operate successfully as a Life
Skills Coach for at least another year. In order to be considered by
management to become an Executive Life Skills Coach, they will need to
operate faithfully and successfully as a Senior Life Skills Coach.
The way to select the best Life Skills
Coach for you and your organization
In order to make certain that you and your organization
obtains the maximum use of a Life Skills Coach, and not be abused by
‘fly-by-night’ and incompetent people who call themselves Life Skills
Coaches but are not, you need to look for the following components:
-
A genuine Life Skills Coach - who is sincere, upright and
honest.
-
A caring Life Skills Coach - who loves and cares for
other people.
-
A passionate Life Skills Coach - who is enthusiastic and
zealous about the work.
-
A competent Life Skills Coach - who has sufficient life
experience and life skills know-how.
-
An accountable Life Skills Coach - who is accountable to
a reputable expert in Life Skills Coaching.
-
An exemplarily Life Skills Coach - who practices what
they preach.
-
A principle based Life Skills Coach – who lives and
coaches principle based.
-
A God depending Life Skills Coach - who relies on God to
help Him to live and coach successfully.
-
Preferably but not essential, an experienced Life Skills
Coach - who have been coaching for some time.
The future of the Life Skills Coaching
Profession
I believe that the future is shining absolutely brightly for
the Life Skills Coaching profession and service, provided that it is
properly regulated and that incompetent Life Skills Coaches and Life Skills
Coaching Companies will not be tolerated.
I believe that one day most individuals, married couples,
families, sports teams, businesses and organizations, will have Life Skills
Coaches involved in their lives just as we all are currently making regular
use of motorcar mechanics to service and maintain our cars.
